Monday, August 25, 2014 was one of my most favorite days on our trip around this beautiful country! We came to the Oregon coast 3 years ago and loved it so much we came back. This time with the motorhome and Harley! The 101 Coastal Highway is just breathtaking! The views and coastal overlooks are some of the prettiest in the country!
We enjoyed seeing sea lions and Gray Whales in their natural habitat. I learned that the hundreds of sea lions that we listened to each day/night at our campsite were all males! The females stay north and tend to the calves and the males migrate down to warmer climates.
The Newport area is the summer home to approximately 60 Gray Whales. We watched them for hours! Seeing their 12' foot blow or spouts in the air was so exciting! They were busy feeding on the kelp in the bays. We really enjoyed our dinner at Tidal Raves where we could view the whales in Depoe Bay! Such a memorable day!
We also enjoyed visiting the Yaquina Bay and Yaquina Head Lighthouses.
