We took a ride to Wyoming to see the Devils Tower. Along the way we stopped in Aladdin, WY population: 15! Then on to the tower which is America's first National Monument est. September 24, 1906 by President T. Roosevelt. This massive stone pillar that is 1,267 feet above the Belle Fourche River Valley. To geologists, Devils Tower is an igneous intrusion. To the American Indians, it is Mato Tipila, "Bear Lodge," The name Devils Tower originated in 1875 during an expedition led by Col. Richard Irving Dodge when his interpreter misinterpreted the name to mean Bad God's Tower which then became Devils Tower. According to Wikipedia. It does seem so out of place, nothing around it but hills and valleys for miles!
