To get to Pictures Rocks in Munising we travelled over the 3rd longest suspension bridge in the world: The Mackinac Bridge opened in November 1957 connecting the Upper and Lower Peninsulas. The bridge spans 5 miles long. A few years ago we went under the bridge in my brother Rod's boat! What a view!
On Thursday, July 24, 2014 Jerry and I went on a boat cruise to view one of the most beautiful sites in Michigan! Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore is a remarkable twenty-nine mile picturesque shoreline series of rock formations reaching as high as 200 feet above Lake Superior at Munising in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. I couldn't stop taking pictures! A must see for every nature lover!
We arrived on Wednesday, July 16, 2014 and enjoyed lunch with Joanne Lose, Jen Roberts and Sandy Eastman in East Lansing. Joanne and I met a little over a year ago and our friendship was immediate and strong. We have both survived the murder of our only sons and our circumstances are so similar it is unbelievable! I am so thankful that God brought us together!
Thursday - Sunday we had a great time with my family: Greg/Mandy/Olivia/Jaxson; Mike/Rhonda; Rod/Muddy; and Deb/Marty at Big star Lake, Baldwin, Michigan. We so enjoyed our boat ride, campfires and of course the wonderful food. Time went by so fast!
Monday I headed to Midland and saw my high school friends: Denise, Vian and Bonnie. Enjoyed seeing my niece Angie and meeting Owen. Pictures to follow.
In Lewiston just outside of Niagara Falls there is a monument for those brave people who journeyed through the Underground Railroad. Lewiston was their last stop before crossing the Niagara River to freedom. A local author Margaret Goff wrote a fictional book "the Freedom Crossing Book" that captures this incredible journey. The book is written for 3-5 graders.
I am going to create a blog to capture our exciting adventures as Jerry and I set out to travel around this beautiful country. Our adventure begins on June 16th, 2014.
